N'DI IGBO KWENU.....HA!!

The Ibos live in East Nigeria. It comes as no surprise that the heat of Western Africa would dictate the type of clothing worn by any native peoples. The men usually wear loose-fitting cotton shirts and a loincloth, while the women wrap different pieces of cloth around themselves and also wrap some cloth around their head. For a more festive look, modern Igbo traditional men's attire is generally made up of the "Isiagu" which resembles the African Dashiki. Isiagu (or Ishi agu) can be plain (usually black), but it's typically patterned with lions heads embroidered over the clothing. The Isiagu is worn with trousers and accessorized with either a traditional title holders hat (a fez named okpu agu or agwu) or with the traditional Igbo stripped men's hat. For women, an embodied puffed sleeve blouse (influenced by European attire) along with two wrappers (usually modern Hollandis material) and a head scarf are worn. In this spread, ASM captures the Ibo traditional look from a contemporary angle.... Enjoy!
